Jinta Yadomi is peacefully living as a recluse, spending his days away from school and playing video games at home instead. One hot summer day, his childhood friend, Meiko "Menma" Honma, appears and pesters him to grant a forgotten wish. He pays her no mind, which annoys her, but he doesn't really care. After all, Menma already died years ago.

At first, Jinta thinks that he is merely hallucinating due to the summer heat, but he is later on convinced that what he sees truly is the ghost of Menma. Jinta and his group of childhood friends grew apart after her untimely death, but they are drawn together once more as they try to lay Menma's spirit to rest. Re-living their pain and guilt, will they be able to find the strength to help not only Menma move on—but themselves as well?

Anohana isn’t just an anime, it’s an emotion.
At first glance, it may look like a simple story about childhood friends who drifted apart, but as it unfolds, it pulls your heartstrings in the softest and most painful ways.

The story revolves around a group of childhood friends brought back together by the ghost of their friend, Menma. What follows is not just a journey of helping her move on, but also helping themselves heal from the guilt, pain, and regrets they’ve silently carried for years.

Every character is written with such emotional depth that you’ll feel their struggles as your own. From Jinta’s broken isolation to Anaru’s ... hidden sorrow, everything feels real.
The emotions are raw, the pacing is perfect, and the storytelling is beautifully simple, yet deeply impactful.

The OST, especially “Secret Base”, hits like a wave.
The animation complements the tone, soft and subtle, just like the story.
And when the climax hits... it's impossible not to cry.

This anime teaches that grief doesn’t always scream, sometimes, it lingers in silence, memories, and unspoken words.

Mixed Feelings

It's short and sweet. Great starter anime. Not a cliché ending but it brings tears to your eyes no matter how many times you've seen it. It's on its 11th anniversary now and it's playback quality is amazing. It's also one of the anime's where the dub is just as good as the sub is, they really captured all the same feelings as the sub.

I really enjoyed how touching this show was. It really covered the idea of getting to day one last thing to that one person. I also really liked how we got to know each character and how they were related to ... Menma. This anime really made my heart go out to each of the characters.

Characters:

Menma is pedobait, typical pussy cuck NEET MC, Naruko is cute and her arc seems to revolve around hanging out with sluts and becoming one herself to cope with Meiko’s death, we also got fat hobo NEET, studious glasses girl who’s crush sadly only has eyes for ghost loli then last but not least said crush Atsumu who’s by far the best character.

Story:

Dogshit soap opera, the crossdressing Atsumu reveal was pure kino though. Every episode just involves childhood friends crying over dead loli or Atsumu being based (crossdressing, lusting after dead loli, being an asshole stuff like that). There’s no substance whatsoever just dumb ... nonsense drama. WAAAAAH MENMA CHAN WAAAAAAAH AIEEEEEEEEEEE WAAAAAAAH

Visuals/Soundtrack:

Soundtrack is crap, just the same inset song played over and over again it still plays in my head like 7 years later. Visuals/animation looks pretty fresh though.

Do NOT watch this tripe. Atsumu is based but not based enough to carry this series sadly.
