Brilliant start point to read the manga, this cliff-hanger probably made Miura a millionaire from all the Berserk sales, Guts in the beginning is seen as some generic, 2 dimensional swordsman however, we quickly find out their is more to his character than big sword but his reason for revenge is slowly revealed as you travel through the series, very satisfying; uncovering and discovering the philosophy of dreams, revenge, love and envy and a heartburning cliff-hanger. This is probably the best Berserk adaptation, art style simplified however, still very true to the masterpiece that Miura created; however the sound design is a bit scuffed in ... places and it can have awkward animation sometimes, but for almost 30 years ago it's doing quite well and still lives up today. I still hold on to false hope for a season 2, however a fan made one is being made in the following studio:

Overall, Berserk 1997 is a brilliant way to begin exploring the story of Berserk and I would recommend anyone who wants to get into it to start with this series or if you've already read Berserk to watch this amazing adaptation of The Golden Age/

Completely lost interest, his slow rise to power was mildly enjoyable, slowing becoming more and more powerful as time went through, showing his undying perseverance for his mother and his family was very interesting, and the animation was super impressive and engaging. However, it quickly devolved into "wow he so stong, look stonger than all der s wanks so cool" For now, there is basically no plot for the story. Sorry to break it to you A-1 Picture but him creating a guild is going to be the most boring thing ever, just complete domination, there is no struggle for him anymore because of simply ... how powerful he is, these bugs that were hyped up for like half a season were literally nothing to him and beat them with ease, and because theres no struggle, it's fucking boring. Jin-Woo is going to just slam everybody as becomes infinitively stronger; I cant wait for season 15 when he becomes God and slaughters all the hunters and becomes the overlord of the entire universe, brilliant story. Of course, I still watched it like a good boy but I had high hopes with it's impressive animation and introduction of Jin-Wo, I highly doubt that I'll watch a third season, if they ever make one. No idea how this won anime of the year, clearly shows that the Crunchyroll awards are controlled by people who don't enjoy anime or manga and simply want to profit. They should of made a Berserk anime in the style of 1997 that continues on or a Vagabond anime instead. My high expectations were crushed by this and all the 400lb Reddit Mods who thinks all Japanese culture is the second coming of Christ that praised this quickly declining show so highly.
