Pan de Peace! is a simple little slice of life about a group of girls who bond over bread. It's a simple enough premise, with each episode themed after a certain kind of bread, though for a show with this title I would have liked it to have been more about the bread itself, maybe with recipes at the end of each episode, rather than a somewhat generic anime with the vague theme of bread and baking. Indeed, that's all the story is- It's a short tale about girls who become friends because they all love bread. It could have been worse, but it also could have been more about bread, which is going to be a sticking point for me throughout this review.
The art is probably this anime's strongest aspect, with distinctive character designs, and bread that looked delicious and tactile, with animation related to it looking especially smooth and seamless. In every scene, the various breads looked very good, which is certainly a point in its favor.
The sound is fine, meeting the basic standards of quality, but I would have appreciated more bread-specific sounds- maybe the sound of a nice crunchy crust, or the slap of wet dough on the countertop. I think good sound design could have definitely taken this anime to the next level, so that feels like a missed opportunity.
As for the characters, they're all fine, filling the roles the story needs them to fill, but I didn't really come away from this feeling like any were my favorites in particular, perhaps because this is such a brief title. Overall, Pan de Peace! is a ingly entertaining CGDCT title, and while I certainly don't regret watching it, it still would have been a far superior work if it had really leaned into the bread angle more than it did.
